**Elaris Moonsong** is the Divine of the Moon — patron of its light, of navigation by night, and of wanderers and the lost who steer by it — and one of the [[The Pantheon|Seven Divines]] who hold the faith of the world of [[Elandis]]. His relic is the **Moon's Tear**, an opalescent teardrop amulet said to grant visions and guidance in the deepest dark.
## Overview
Elaris Moonsong's sphere encompasses the moon and its light, safe passage by night, and guidance through dark times — literal and otherwise. The moon faith he anchors is widely observed across the known world, its shrines standing at crossroads and harbour-mouths, its calendar kept by the greater moon **Sel**. The Moon's Tear — the opalescent amulet his faith venerates as his relic — is said to steer its bearer truly, by sea and road, and in spirit as much as in body.
An old prophecy preserved among the moon faith's clergy speaks of a **Moon's Chosen**: a mortal marked by Elaris to wander the world in a time of great darkness, bring hope in their wake, and gather the **three Stones of the Moon** — after which the hidden **Celestial Cavern** will reveal itself to them. The faith regards it as a standing promise rather than a dead legend. Notably, the prophecy consistently names this figure a *Lady* of the Moon, though every statue and tradition of the faith depicts Elaris as a man; the clergy have worried at this seam without resolving it.
## Worship
The moon faith keeps its calendar by the two moons that hang over [[Elandis]], **Sel** and **Sha**, whose origins no living tradition can account for.
### The Moonrise
Each **Moonday**, as the moon climbs, the faithful gather to greet it with prayer — the simplest and most regular of the moon faith's observances.
### Silvernight
The fifteenth of every month, when Sel rides full: the ordinary holy night of the faith, given to prayer and to the keeping of an open door for the road-weary.
### The Unshadowed
Four times a year, on the nights when Sel is full while Sha is entirely dark. These are the faith's highest holy nights, and above all the occasion of **the Pardon** — the seeking and granting of forgiveness, when the faithful confess old wrongs and receive absolution. That mercy should be strongest on exactly those nights when the darker moon vanishes is an observation the faith keeps without explaining.
## In Memory & Belief
To the world, Elaris Moonsong has simply always been the god of the moon. His faith is woven into the calendar, the landscape, and the ordinary rhythms of life. Beyond the holy days and the standing prophecy, little is formally recorded of his history; the faith's own deepest clergy hold that the roots of the moon faith run further back than any living priest can trace.
## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 04 - To Free a Raven]]
At a temple of the Seven Divines in [[Darmouth]], [[Kai]] was drawn to a statue of Elaris Moonsong and pulled into a breathtaking celestial vision — standing before a divine presence that claimed him as her own and left a shimmering holy symbol etched upon his hand.
#### [[Session 20 - The Streets of Val Miriel]]
At the [[High Sept]] in [[Val Miriel]], Kai noticed a moonstone in Elaris Moonsong's display case that matched one he carried; in a private audience, [[High Priest Oldir]] acknowledged that Kai had been touched by a divine power connected to the moon faith, and that the faith's roots ran deeper than its public face.
#### [[Session 26 - A Midnight Romp]]
Returning to the High Sept under the city's lockdown, Kai and [[Dondar]] pressed Oldir further; the high priest recounted the full prophecy of the Moon's Chosen, and when Kai produced his moonstone and matched it to the gem in Elaris Moonsong's altar, Oldir's scepticism broke and he sheltered them for the night.
#### [[Session 27 - The Wanted Dwarf]]
Preparing to slip out of the locked-down city, Kai held his moonstone against the display case and felt a clear magnetic pull between the two stones — a silent confirmation of the sacred connection.
#### [[Session 49 - The Silver Sage]]
The ancient dragon [[Praetor'Varanous]] confirmed that one of the three Stones of the Moon lies in [[High Priest Oldir|Oldir]]'s keeping at the High Sept of [[Val Miriel]] — a piece of the prophecy's puzzle still held in trust by the faith's highest clergy.
