**Whispering Woods** is a forested region in the southern reaches of the [[Silver Mountains]], filling a stretch of the Silver Valley some fifty miles south of [[Orespire]] and three hundred miles south of [[Silverdeep]]. It takes its name from the wind — the valley funnels a near-constant breeze down through the trees, and the sound of it moving through the canopy is the first thing any traveller notices. Once home to scattered elven communities, the woods are remembered now less for the people who live there than for the family that was lost from them.
## Geography & Landscape
The woods lie within the [[Silver Mountains]], occupying part of the long valley that runs north to south between the range's eastern and western arms. The river that drains the valley — the same water that flows out past [[Orespire]] and on beyond the mountains — winds through the trees on its way south, and the woods cling to the slopes and valley floor around it. Tall conifers dominate, dark and close-grown, climbing the lower mountainsides until the timber thins toward the bare grey peaks above.

Wind defines the place. The valley channels it without pause, and here, where the corridor narrows, it blows hardest of all — a perpetual breeze stirring the high branches so the forest seems forever murmuring to itself. That sound is the whole of the name: there is no magic in it, no voices, only wind in old trees. The same exposure gives the region its long-prized timber, and good bow-wood among it; the name still travels with the trade, carried as far as the workshop of the Whispering Woods Bowyer in distant [[Camaar]].
## History & Inhabitants
For generations the Whispering Woods were home to quiet elven settlements, families living in and around villages tucked deep among the trees. It was here that [[Jarek]], a human rogue, and [[Eirieneth Silmara]], an elf of the royal [[Silmara Family]], came to settle against the wishes of her kin, and here that their son [[Eryndor]] was born. They kept to the outskirts rather than the village proper, more isolated than their neighbours, and for a time lived quietly and well.
That life ended with the rise of the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]]. As the elves withdrew from [[Valtorra]], an Imperial raid swept the Whispering Woods, and the elven communities that had given the region its character were destroyed or scattered — among the dead, the elven father of [[Lilliana Featherfoot]]; among the taken, [[Eirieneth Silmara|Eirieneth]] herself, who vanished from the family's home while [[Eryndor]] was still a small child. The woods were never wholly emptied — people live in them yet — but the loss was specifically elven, and the settlements that remain are no longer the ones that named the place.
## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 49 - The Silver Sage]]
Within the Pool of Insight, [[Eryndor]] relived a memory of the Whispering Woods as a five-year-old: his father frantic, his mother already gone. He named the vision's falsity — too many houses, too many people — recalling that his own family had lived apart, on the outskirts of the village rather than among its crowd.
