Its canopy burns a deep, saturated crimson in every season — summer or winter, storm or clear sky — a quality that has no known explanation and that locals have long since stopped questioning. ## Geography & Landscape The forest sits within the [[Gulf of Miriel]] region, occupying the foothills between [[Faelon]] and the mountain peaks to the north. It presses close to the settlement on its southern, eastern, and western edges — dense enough at the margins to give the town a hemmed-in character — and thins as the ground steepens toward the high country. At its deepest northern reach, where the trees grow sparse and the slope opens onto exposed rock, [[Tumbler's Crag]] rises from the last of the crimson canopy. The forest is well-travelled for a place with no particular reputation. Miners moving between [[Faelon]] and the high mine entrances cross its northern reaches daily; hunters work the interior; the worn paths through it are informal but familiar to anyone who lives in the settlement. Its defining quality is the colour. The canopy holds a vivid, burning red regardless of season — it never fades, never greens. The effect makes [[Faelon]] unmistakable from the mountain paths high above, a smear of deep crimson against the grey-green of the foothills. No one in the town offers an explanation.
