A century ago its people departed through [[Ithilmara]]'s [[World Gates|World Gate]], sealed their cities behind wards lethal to any non-elf, and withdrew into the [[Faewild]] — leaving a land wholly intact but entirely empty, slowly returning to wilderness. ## Geography & Landscape The island lies across the Erivan Strait from the Valtorra mainland. It is a forested, mountainous place — ridges of grey stone running through the interior, densely wooded slopes descending to sheltered inlets and rocky coastlines. A great natural inlet cuts in from the southern coast, its mouth commanded by the [[Towers of Mithrondal]] and its waters navigable all the way to [[Ithilmara]]'s docks deep within the island. [[Galathilion]] occupies the island's western reaches. A century without inhabitants has let the wilds reclaim what was built. Roads are cracked and rooted over, and the forests press steadily into the settlements. The elven cities remain intact — preserved exactly as their people left them — but the wards that seal them inflict mounting, ultimately fatal psychic agony on any non-elf who lingers. The [[Valtorran Empire]] tested those wards and found them unbreakable; it never held the island. ![[Erivan_Island_Location_small.webp]] ## Settlements & Sites - [[Ithilmara]] — the principal elven city, on the eastern coast; the seat of material governance and home to the World Gate, the planar mechanism bound to the [[Silmara Family|Silmara]] bloodline that carried the elves to [[Sumara, The Shining City|Sumara]] at the Exile. - [[Galathilion]] — an elven city on the island's western side, sealed and silent since the Exile. - [[Towers of Mithrondal]] — immense ancient sentinel towers at the island's southern tip, guarding the inlet approach to Ithilmara's docks.
