Its column of smoke is a landmark visible for a hundred miles across the continent, and its name — *Val* and *fyria*, the place of fire — marks it as one of the oldest-named features on the map. ## Location & Geography Valfyria stands at the very centre of the [[Silver Mountains]], where the range's two parallel ridges converge at their highest point. It is the tallest peak in the chain, its summit shrouded in a permanent plume of volcanic smoke that travellers and sailors alike use as a bearing across the central continent. The flanks of the mountain are steep and treacherous, the rock dark and fractured where ancient lava flows have cooled and cracked over centuries, and the air grows sulphurous well before the upper slopes are reached. No road leads to its summit; the mountain is not climbed. ## The Red Priests The [[Red Priests]] are known to maintain their base of operations beneath Valfyria, in a temple carved into the mountain's depths. Among the revelations the ritual extracted was the location of the Red Priests' base of operations — Valfyria, the volcano at the centre of the continent.
