A clear cut above the rough dockside houses but no haunt of nobility, it is the sort of comfortable, well-kept establishment that draws merchants and people of stable means — known above all for the stunning views from its great river-facing windows and the easy charm of its barmaid. ## Location & Geography River's Watch sits on the Divine Way side of the [[Luminor River]], near the mouth where the river opens toward the sea. It is a handsome building of stone and timber, a clear step up from the working houses crowded along the docks: polished floors, a warm hearth, and a sophisticated yet welcoming air, without ever reaching for noble pretension. The river side of the building is set with large windows that look out over the water toward the open sea — the tavern's defining feature, and the first thing any returning patron remembers of it. ## Atmosphere The draw of River's Watch is simple and deliberate: a nice, comfortable place to be. The hearth keeps the common room warm, the views down the river are striking, and nothing about the room puts a guest on edge. Its clientele runs to merchants and those with respectable, stable work — the sort of crowd whose talk turns to trade, shipping, and the gossip of the city rather than the dangers of the dockside. Much of the tavern's warmth comes from its people, and the barmaid [[Lila Spring]] is a particular favourite of the regulars, her quick wit and charisma a large part of why they keep coming back. ## The House River's Watch is run by a small, settled staff who give the place its character: - **Aric Laris** *(owner)* — tall, well-mannered, and warm. He inherited the tavern and knows his regulars by name; a genial host, content to keep a good house. - **[[Lila Spring|Barmaid Lila Spring]]** — spirited and quick-witted, with a sharp tongue kept warm by genuine goodwill. She has spent years behind the bar and knows the city's rhythms intimately, which makes her an unusually useful source of local intelligence for those who know how to ask. She dreams of one day owning a tavern of her own. - **Chef Isolde** *(cook)* — cheerful and generous, blending old recipes with her own twists and treating her kitchen staff like family. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] River's Watch served as the Bloody Nails' home base throughout their stay in [[Val Miriel]]. They lodged here, learned the lay of the streets from [[Lila Spring]], and used the tavern as their regular regrouping point — and as a result a remarkable run of pivotal moments unfolded under its roof. #### [[Session 19 - Blood and Sorrow]] After arriving in Val Miriel and witnessing the Governor's procession, the party secured lodging at River's Watch. That night an arrow carrying a cryptic message came through their window — an invitation to a midnight meeting. The following morning [[Gideon Blackthorn]] of the [[Order of Ravens]] met them here to take custody of [[Lia]], and before leaving pulled [[Eryndor]] aside to reveal that his father was alive and somewhere in the city. #### [[Session 20 - The Streets of Val Miriel]] The party began the day at River's Watch, where [[Kai]] comforted a grieving [[Gemma Finegold]] and gathered intelligence on the city's layout from [[Lila Spring]] before setting out into the streets. #### [[Session 21 - The Governor's Daughter]] Returning to the tavern to regroup, the party was approached at their table by an elderly stranger who cheerfully ignored [[Kai]]'s attempt to spike his drink. He revealed himself as [[Jarek]], [[Eryndor]]'s long-lost father, and drew his son aside for a tense, poignant reunion by the river before vanishing into the night. #### [[Session 22 - Inferno at Serenity Plaza]] The party regrouped once more at River's Watch, talking over the revelations about [[Eryndor]]'s lineage and the sending stones before scattering across the city to gather resources. #### [[Session 23 - Ruby Falls Goldmine]] Fleeing the explosion at [[Serenity Plaza]], the party raced back to River's Watch to retrieve their wagon. As the rest bluffed their way out of the city before lockdown, [[Trak Aeris]] appeared and drew [[Eryndor]] away from the tavern toward the Ravens' hidden sanctuary.
