It is a solemn, well-kept place — the dignified face of the city's old power, near the seat of its rule. ## Location & Geography Miriel's Rest sits in the Royal Way, the district of rule and old money on the western bank of [[Val Miriel]], wedged at the very heart of the quarter between the river on one side and the curtain walls of the [[Miriel Keep]] on the other. It is a walled and gated ground of weathered monuments and family tombs set among manicured lawns, watched over by the keep's guards, with the grand Miriel family crypt standing as its centrepiece. A still, dignified place set a little apart from the noise of the living city. ## Those Who Lie Here The cemetery holds the ancestry of House Miriel, the city's old ruling line, alongside generations of other [[Val Miriel]] nobles and gentry — those who lived along the Royal Way or stood close to the kingdom and its governance. To be laid to rest here is a mark of standing: a place among the city's old power, kept apart from the common dead. ## The Hidden War Room Beneath the Miriel family crypt lies a secret the cemetery keeps better than any grave. A concealed passage descends from the crypt deep underground to a hidden war room — a meeting place chosen precisely because no one questions the dead. It is here that [[Governor Tarlis Evandron]] holds council away from watching eyes, reached through the tombs of the family whose name the city still bears. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 19 - Blood and Sorrow]] An arrow carrying a note was loosed into the party's room, summoning them to meet "a friend" at midnight at Miriel's Rest. #### [[Session 20 - The Streets of Val Miriel]] The party scouted the cemetery ahead of the meeting, confirming it as the royal graveyard. While searching the grounds, Ryo recovered a six-sided die radiating transmutation magic, hidden on one of the graves. #### [[Session 21 - The Governor's Daughter]] Returning at midnight, the party talked their way through the gates and were met among the tombs by a hooded figure who revealed herself as [[Vallania Miriel]], the governor's daughter. She led them down through her family crypt to the hidden war room below, for a secret audience with her father, [[Governor Tarlis Evandron]].
