A perfect sphere of translucent crystal encircled by slowly turning golden orrery rings, it is the seat of the city's arcane order — and, of the seven Nexuses, the one best known to the outsiders who have lately come to the Shining City. ## Location & Geography The Locus Arcanum rises from the Etherean Canton, on the upper-eastern rim of Sumara's caldera, among sky-facing towers raised on natural stone arches and spires of glass prism. The citadel itself is a flawless sphere of translucent crystal, ringed by golden orrery bands that turn slowly about it; within, a blue-violet light glows through walls etched on every surface with star charts, so that it reads as much an observatory of the planes as a tower of magic. Like all seven Nexuses, it can lift from its anchor and drift above the city, rising with its sister citadels to dock at the peak of the [[Royal Citadel]] whenever a [[Sumara, The Shining City#The Confluence of the Seven|Confluence]] is called. ## Seat of the Weave The Locus Arcanum is the working heart of the [[Circle of the Weave]]: the place where Sumara's protective wards are woven and renewed, where planar phenomena are studied, and where the city's arcane casters are trained. It is the seat of the Circle's Meridian, [[Illythia Voss]]. Its stores have never fully recovered from the Emerald Ceremony, to which the Circle committed its finest instruments and artifacts a generation ago. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 47 - Confluence of the Seven]] [[Ayana Syndrosa]] led the party cloaked through the Etherean Canton to the Locus Arcanum, the home of her old companion [[Illythia Voss|Illythia]]. A reunion forty years in the making gave way to a full briefing on the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]] — and when [[Ryo]] turned his hand to show his signet ring, the Locus bore witness to the revelation that the [[Silmara Family|Silmara]] royal line still lived. #### [[Session 51 - The Last Light]] The party spent their last morning in Sumara here, in farewells at the Locus Arcanum, before climbing to the archives of the [[Circle of the Scroll]].
