Where the floating [[Oraculum]] keeps the Circle's rarest and most guarded records, the Lectorium is the archive scholars actually walk into: a warren of halls and galleries holding centuries of elven learning. ## Location & Geography The Lectorium sits at the foot of the Mnemorium Canton's cliff, beside a waterfall where vast magical stone elevators slide endlessly up and down the rock face. Its public entrance hall opens straight off the cliff. Behind it, the library runs back and along into the stone in a long chain of halls, galleries and stairways, kept in the canton's perennial dim light. Unlike the Oraculum, which lifts from its anchor whenever a [[Sumara, The Shining City#The Confluence of the Seven|Confluence]] is called, the Lectorium never moves, and its doors are open to any who come to read. ## The Halls No single room holds the Lectorium's knowledge. Each hall is given to its own body of learning, from the histories of the Material Plane and the [[Chaos Wars]] to records of the planes beyond, and a researcher may cross half the cliff following one question. The head librarian, Aaroun, and the library's staff, among them the old faun Silvana, know which hall holds what, and few visitors find anything without them. The most sensitive collections are kept apart, and opening them needs the leave of the Circle's Meridian, Archivist Elrohir Gemflower. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 51 - The Last Light]] Ferried to the canton by griffin, the party was led by Silvana to the public archives, where Aaroun reluctantly agreed to help once they claimed [[Kaelen Vayne|Kaelen]]'s sanction. An exceptional search turned up the oldest history of all: [[Ryordan Silmara]] and the sundering of the [[World Tree]]. #### [[Session 57 - On the Eve of Hell]] The party returned to research the Nine Hells, helped by the clerk who now recognised them. They learned that every traveller to the Hells arrives first in Avernus, that devils die for good only when slain in the Hells, that the Styx is the fastest road down, and how soul coins and true names are traded there. An obscure account of a play staged for great devils placed a theatre in the Rustward quarter of Dis. [[Kai]], searching separately, found a scroll describing a fallen civilisation where the [[Darkwood]] now grows.
