Hundreds of feet across and stretching into unseen heights, it is a world of perpetual soft colour — a place where towering fungi provide the only light and [[Fungrals|small mushroom-folk]] have made their home far from where they began. ## Location & Geography The Bioluminescent Forest lies deep within the cave system accessed through a breach in the [[Ruby Falls Goldmine]], in the same tunnel network that leads to the caves of [[Nelfandriss the Banished]]. No sunlight reaches it; the cavern is entirely self-illuminating. The chamber is enormous — hundreds of feet long and wide — filled floor to unseen ceiling with towering mushroom stalks. Each cluster emits a soft, pulsating glow in hues of blue, green, and purple, the light shifting and mingling across the cavern walls. Web arches span between the larger stalks, forming natural bridges through the upper reaches of the space. The floor is thick with spongy moss and smaller fungi that muffle sound and give the whole place an eerie quiet. The mushrooms are not merely decorative. Several distinct varieties grow here, each with recognised alchemical properties: red specimens are violently explosive when processed, green yield a potent contact poison, purple can neutralise toxins, and blue are simply edible. Their spores, released in clouds when disturbed, carry their own hazards — red spores in particular are hallucinogenic, capable of twisting a creature's perception of friend and foe alike. The cavern is home to a colony of [[Fungrals]] — small, shy humanoids whose bodies resemble the very fungi around them, with mycelium flesh and mushroom-cap heads that vary in shape and colour. They are believed to have arrived here from the [[Faewild]], drawn or displaced through a riftshard or fae circle that once opened into these tunnels, and have since made the Bioluminescent Forest their permanent home. A detour from the main cavern leads further into the tunnels to the [[Pool of Reflection]]. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 24 - Nelfandriss The Banished]] [[The Bloody Nails]] passed through the Bioluminescent Forest on their way to the caves of [[Nelfandriss the Banished]]. They navigated exploding red fungi and hallucinogenic spores — the latter briefly turning [[Kai]]'s companions into demonic figures in his eyes. Through patient mime and a set of harvested spider fangs, Kai managed to communicate with the local [[Fungrals]], who pointed them deeper into the tunnels and shared food after he watered their mushroom garden. The party also discovered the [[Pool of Reflection]] on a side passage; [[Vaeleran]] offered his blood to its waters and received a cryptic vision confirming that a magical block on his memories could only be broken by powerful restoration magic. #### [[Session 25 - The Chimera]] On their return through the cavern, [[Kai]] harvested a selection of blue and purple mushrooms — edible and poison-curing respectively — and transplanted several specimens to the entrance of the spider caves as an improvised warning sign for anyone who might follow them in.
