It is a young blade and a singular one — not an heirloom with a long history but an object newly made, brimming with a charge so great that those who can read magic name it among the most powerful items in the world, and one that is still growing into its own strength. ## Description #### Appearance The Emberblade is a duelling rapier with a blade of dark obsidian and a hilt of worked gold, its guard chased in ornate filigree. The pommel is sculpted into a likeness of its maker's own face — a small, characteristic flourish set into an otherwise elegant weapon. At rest it is simply a beautiful sword; but when its bearer channels magic through it, the steel pulses and glows with a faint arcane light, the glassy blade carrying a warmth that seems to rise from somewhere beneath its surface. ## Properties In the hand the Emberblade is a finely made rapier, keen enough to cut down armed guards with ease. Its deeper nature only became apparent in use: when its bearer first drove magic through the blade, the latent power within it stirred in answer, and arcane channelled through the weapon flares brighter than it has any right to. Those who have studied it sense an ocean of power held beneath the steel — far more than the weapon outwardly shows — and the clear impression that the sword has not yet finished becoming what it will be. Borne as an arcane focus, it amplifies the magic worked through it, and grows in strength as its wielder attunes more deeply to it. ## History The Emberblade was forged on the night of the 457th [[Emberlight Vigil]], when the [[Emberspire]] blazes gold and its power can be drawn upon by those who know how. Inside [[Belinda Bubblegum]]'s workshop in [[Lighthaven]], the dwarven artificer set to crafting alongside [[Dondar]], who proved an extraordinary collaborator with a rare instinct for enchantment. Together they channelled a fraction of the Spire's harvested power into a single rapier of gold and obsidian — and where Belinda's other works drew on conventional craft, this one was filled with an enormous charge of the ancient arcane magic the Spire holds. Dondar carved the pommel in his own likeness and gifted the finished blade to his companion [[Eryndor]]. ## Current Owner The Emberblade is wielded by [[Eryndor]], the half-elven [[The Bloody Nails|Bloody Nail]] to whom [[Dondar]] gave it. He has carried it as his primary weapon since, and — since learning what lies within it — has begun using it as his arcane focus, channelling his magic through the blade to draw out and grow its power. ## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 31 - The Emberlight Vigil]] On the night of the Emberlight Vigil, the party helped [[Belinda Bubblegum|Belinda]] siphon a fraction of the [[Emberspire]]'s power through an embedded conduit. [[Dondar]] joined her in the workshop and proved a prodigy of enchantment, and together they forged the Emberblade from gold and obsidian. Dondar carved the pommel in his own likeness and gifted the rapier to [[Eryndor]]. #### [[Session 42 - Liberation of Val Noren]] During the liberation of Val Noren, [[Eryndor]] and [[Berberis]] breached the guard room, and Eryndor used the Emberblade and his daggers to lethally dispatch the guards in the opening room. #### [[Session 48 - The Vault of Memories]] Battling the Vault's stone guardian, [[Eryndor]] drove the Emberblade into a weakened joint and channelled Booming Blade through it for the first time. Something within the sword stirred in answer — a silent, wordless resonance, the first hint of the power held beneath the steel. #### [[Session 49 - The Silver Sage]] The half-stirring lingered in [[Eryndor]]'s mind. As he drifted off, his thoughts returned to the Emberblade — the sense that something was there, worth looking into. #### [[Session 50 - A New Morning in Sumara]] At the Diminished Trove in [[Sumara, The Shining City|Sumara]], the ancient [[Arcanist Levvel]] of the [[Circle of the Weave]] wove a ritual of light around the Emberblade and went still, naming it *"one of the more powerful items I think I've ever seen."* She told [[Eryndor]] to set aside his component pouch and channel his magic through the sword instead; when he did, it was like a key turning in a lock — a vast ocean of power beneath the blade, the steel pulsing with a faint glow, and the unmistakable sense that the sword could yet grow. ## Trivia - The Emberblade takes both its name and its power from the [[Emberspire]] and the [[Emberlight Vigil]], the festival on whose 457th night it was made. - Its pommel is carved in the likeness of [[Dondar]], the dwarf who forged and gifted it — a signature left in the work itself. - For all its promise, the blade has been a stubborn partner to [[Eryndor]] since the night it came into his hands — his strikes with it seeming to go awry as often as they land true.
