The Val Miriel Gryphons are the [[Green Gryphons]]' chapter in [[Val Miriel]] — a guildhall on [[Military Way]] under the steady command of Captain [[Porta Hale]], and the most active chapter the [[The Bloody Nails|Bloody Nails]] have dealt with in the course of their travels. Of all the guild's presences encountered so far, this one has seen the most of what the party are capable of — and has kept its professional composure throughout.
## Overview & Base
The chapter occupies a hall on [[Military Way]], in the quarter where soldiers, hired swords, and merchants move in constant traffic. There is nothing concealed about it. The guildhall is where it is because that is where people look for dangerous work, and the [[Green Gryphons]] want to be easy to find.
Under Captain [[Porta Hale]], the hall has built a reputation for quiet competence. Contracts come in from merchants, nobles, and civic bodies; they are handled, paid, and closed. During [[Val Miriel]]'s slide into martial law, the guildhall functioned as an unlikely refuge — a professionally run, stubbornly neutral space in a city fracturing along Imperial fault lines. Porta runs it with the pragmatism of a man who has absorbed too much to be surprised by anything and who knows the exact distance between tolerating trouble and inviting it.
## Notable Members
| Member | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| [[Porta Hale]] | Chapter Captain | Runs the Val Miriel chapter; blunt, pragmatic, protective of the hall's standing |
| [[Teresa Martari]] | Member | Tiefling swordswoman; keeps watch over members heading out into the city; not the sort who warns twice |
## Local Operations
The chapter handles contracts across Val Miriel and the surrounding region — monster clearance, security, investigation, and the quieter jobs that do not advertise themselves. During the period of Imperial martial law, the hall sheltered the [[The Bloody Nails|Bloody Nails]] between operations, shielding them from direct Imperial inquiry at considerable risk to its own standing. When a Hand of the Empire came through the door demanding a druid and a half-folk magic user, Porta deflected him without yielding anyone — and paid a price in standing for it.
## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 20 - The Streets of Val Miriel]]
The party arrived at the guildhall for the first time and reunited with [[Ryo]]. Captain [[Porta Hale]] laid out several available contracts — an investigation into a silent goldmine north of the city, the mystery of a ghostly merchant ship, and tracks the party had reported that he identified as likely belonging to Displacer Beasts.
#### [[Session 22 - Inferno at Serenity Plaza]]
The goldmine contract led the party to the estate of [[Lord Norak Vara]], who revealed that not only had shipments from the [[Ruby Falls Goldmine]] ceased, but that Imperial soldiers sent to investigate had vanished without a trace.
#### [[Session 23 - Ruby Falls Goldmine]]
The party descended into the mine to investigate on the chapter's behalf.
#### [[Session 24 - Nelfandriss The Banished]]
The party encountered the mine's inhabitants and negotiated a settlement, concluding their investigation without clearing the site as contracted.
#### [[Session 25 - The Chimera]]
The party returned to Val Miriel during martial law, passing the gate checkpoint on the strength of their Gryphon credentials. They reported back to [[Porta Hale]], claiming the [[Ruby Falls Goldmine]] had naturally collapsed and was empty. They received payment and the contract was closed.
#### [[Session 26 - A Midnight Romp]]
[[Vaeleran]] and [[Ryo]] sheltered at the guildhall while [[Kai]] and [[Dondar]] attempted to slip out under curfew. [[Teresa Martari]] met them at the door with a plain warning: do not bring trouble back to the guild.
#### [[Session 27 - The Wanted Dwarf]]
a Hand of the Empire kicked in the guildhall doors demanding a druid and a half-folk magic user. [[Porta Hale]] deflected the soldiers without yielding anyone. Once they left, he told the party that their presence had become a liability and urged them to leave the city until things quietened down.
