**Warden Caradoc** was an old centaur warden of the Hunt, the mounted host that patrols the wild marches of the [[Vale of Eternal Night]] and answers, in name, to the Star-Veiled Queen at [[Caer Nystral, The Dawnless City|Caer Nystral]]. Grey-coated and one-eyed, honourable in his blunt way but no great thinker, he had long since let his loyalty be turned by sweeter words than his Queen's.
## Biography
Caradoc rode at the head of a hunting band of centaurs, troopers and worgs that swept the roads and forests of the Vale — for nothing, by his own account, passes through those lands without the Hunt's knowing. He was a creature of simple creed: he rode, he hunted, he kept his given word, and he made no bargains and worked no magic. That same plainness made him easy prey for a cleverer power, and somewhere in his long service the Barrow-Crone [[Ymrageth]] had taken him in with promises and flattery, binding him quietly to her schemes against the throne.
Beside him always loped Moss, his dire worg — a beast the size of a horse and his closest companion. Where his Queen [[Mirileth]] saw only a misled fool, Ymrageth saw a warden whose patrols she could turn to her own ends, and Caradoc, half-believing he served the better cause, let her.
## [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 52 - The Star-Veiled Queen]]
* Ran the party down on the forest road with his band and his worg Moss, encircled them, and took their weapons in exchange for safe passage under his protection.
* Saw through their elf-blood despite their cover story, but accepted their claim of diplomacy from the Shining City.
* Overruled his arguing lieutenant and diverted the party off the road to the barrow of his secret mistress, [[Ymrageth]], rather than to the Antler Gates.
* Escorted the party on to the Veiled Citadel to ensure they delivered the Crone's poisoned amulet to the Queen.
* **Death:** slain instantly by [[Mirileth]] in the throne room — her hand thrust through his skull — for having heard the forbidden word *soulstone*.
