He holds the front line and puts himself between his companions and harm — once trading places with the rogue mid-battle to spare him a water elemental's grip — but it was as likely his words as his sword that carried the group through: a knack for persuasion and a hard-edged way with a threat that talked the Bloody Nails past suspicious guards, hostile officials and tight corners that would otherwise have meant blood. When his buried memories rise, though, the line between friend and foe can blur, and the others have learned to talk him down as often as they stand beside him. ## Backstory Who Vaeleran was before the Bloody Nails — and why the Empire would know his face — is a story still his own to tell.
