She carries the bloodline of the family whose name the city bears, making her a figure of quiet political significance in a city caught under Imperial occupation. She goes by the name **Nia** when travelling incognito — a habit born from years of slipping away from her father's watchful protection. ## Description #### Appearance Vallania is slender after her father, but a life of deliberate training has given her frame a lean, coiled strength that catches people off guard. Her long blond hair falls straight past her shoulders, and pale blue eyes look out from a face dusted with faint freckles. She favours practical travel clothes and leather over the fine dress her station might suggest — a shortbow across her back and paired daggers at her belt are as natural on her as any courtly ornament. #### Personality There is a restlessness to Vallania that her father's cautious governance only seems to amplify. She is observant and self-possessed — the kind of person who reads a room before she speaks in it — and she carries herself with a confidence that has been earned rather than inherited. Beneath that composure is a deep well of loyalty: once Vallania decides she trusts someone, she defends them without reservation. Her relationship with her father is one of genuine love straining against genuine frustration; she understands why he is overprotective, and she resists it anyway. ## Biography #### Background Vallania never knew her mother, [[Vallarra Miriel - Restricted]], who died in childbirth delivering her — the last of the Miriel bloodline at the time. She grew up in [[Val Miriel]] under the sole care of a father who governed a fractured city by day and spent his evenings quietly terrified of losing her. ![[Vallania_Miriel_Forest_small.webp|left]] Tarlis channelled that fear into protectiveness, and Vallania channelled her response to it into independence. She took up the bow and daggers not because anyone approved, but because no one could stop her. She trained in acrobatics and athletics, went on small unsanctioned adventures, and cultivated a network of quiet freedoms her father pretended not to notice. She also inherited something he could not give her: the name. The Miriel line runs through her, and in a city named for her family, that is not a small thing. She understands the weight of it even if she wears it lightly — and she understands, with a clarity her father sometimes lacks, that the weight will one day be entirely hers to carry. When she heard rumours of a goblin problem on the High Road between [[Camaar]] and [[Darmouth]], she assembled a small group and went to solve it herself. She was the only survivor. ### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 06 - The Goblin Lair]] The party discovered Vallania imprisoned in a goblin holding cell beneath the lair, battered and exhausted but fiercely composed — she gave only her nickname, Nia. Unable to travel safely, she was left in the protection of [[Neros]] while the rest of the party pressed deeper into the complex. ![[Vallania_Miriel_Caged_small.webp]] #### [[Session 07 - Grakthor Falls]] After the defeat of the goblin leader, Vallania was recovered from the cages and escorted back to the surface. She rode to safety on Neros's back as the party regrouped. #### [[Session 08 - The High Road]] Nursing back to health over the journey toward [[Camaar]], Vallania recovered her strength but remained guarded about her past and origins. She revealed only that she wished to return home to [[Val Miriel]]. When the party reached the city gates she bid them farewell, refusing to enter with them and heading north on her own. #### [[Session 19 - Blood and Sorrow]] Vallania appeared publicly at her father's side during the Imperial procession through [[Val Miriel]] — a formal, controlled appearance that gave no hint of the plans already in motion beneath the city. #### [[Session 21 - The Governor's Daughter]] Vallania revealed her true identity to the party at [[Miriel's Rest]], arriving at the royal graveyard in a hood and leading them through a secret passage in the family crypt to a hidden war room beneath. She vouched for [[The Bloody Nails]] to her father, her testimony proving decisive in convincing Governor Tarlis to trust them. It was Vallania who bridged the gap between her father's caution and the party's credibility — and it was her name on the door of that crypt that made the whole meeting possible. #### [[Session 49 - The Silver Sage]] A recovered memory surfaced of Vallania presenting the party to her father in the war room. The memory confirmed that Tarlis arrived alone, without guards — a detail that sharpened the image of how much trust she had placed in the party before her father gave any. ## Trivia - Vallania's alias, Nia, is common enough that several party members knew her for sessions before learning her full name or understanding who she was. - She is the last living heir of the Miriel bloodline, a fact that shapes the political future of [[Val Miriel]] whether she wills it or not.
