**Ratha Silmara** was an elven warrior who gave up his place in the Circle of the Blade to marry [[Rhennaya Silmara]], the ruling heir of the [[Silmara Family]], and stood at her side as a consort and equal during the final years of the elves' time in [[Valtorra]]. He is remembered as a steady, generous partner — a man content to support rather than lead — and as the father of [[Ryo]], the last heir to the Silmara line.
## Biography
Ratha was a high-ranking member of the Circle of the Blade, one of the elven circles of power within [[Valtorra]], before his marriage to [[Rhennaya Silmara]]. When he wed Rhennaya, he renounced his circle membership as custom required — a ruler of the Silmara line could not remain bound to one of the circles — and stepped into the role of consort without apparent regret. By all accounts he never resented the sacrifice. He was well respected and carried no need for the spotlight, content to let Rhennaya take the lead while he supported her however she needed. They ruled together with a quiet, mutual regard that those around them noticed and trusted.
When the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]] rose and the elves faced a choice between standing their ground or withdrawing from [[Valtorra]] entirely, Ratha was not fully in favour of leaving. He believed the elves could hold, or at least that abandoning the continent outright was a defeat that would cost them more than they understood. [[Rhennaya Silmara|Rhennaya]] convinced him otherwise — that withdrawal was the path that saved the most lives and gave the people a chance to regroup. He accepted her reasoning and gave it his support. He then argued, however, that the withdrawal could not be rushed, and remained behind until the last of their people had gone, unwilling to leave anyone unprotected during the crossing.
He was killed by [[Dread General Gerard Blackmarsh]] before he and Rhennaya could follow. Their infant son [[Ryo]] survived.
### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 46 - The Shining City]]
[[Ayana Syndrosa]] revealed to the party that [[Ryo]] was the son of Ratha and [[Rhennaya Silmara]], and the last heir to the [[Silmara Family|Silmara]] royal bloodline.
#### [[Session 47 - Confluence of the Seven]]
[[Ryo]] viewed portraits of his parents for the first time — Ratha standing beside a seated [[Rhennaya Silmara|Rhennaya]], young and happy — in the chambers of [[Illythia Voss]]. Later, a vision replayed the final moment: Ratha holding his wounded wife as [[Dread General Gerard Blackmarsh]] stepped in and ran them both through with the Dread Sword in a single thrust.
#### [[Session 50 - A New Morning in Sumara]]
The arcanist Levvel gasped while reading the blade [[Dread's Hunger]] — through it she had seen Ratha and [[Rhennaya Silmara|Rhennaya]] killed, and offered to take the sword from [[Ryo]].
