**Captain Porta Hale** is a human mercenary commander and the head of the [[Val Miriel]] branch of [[The Green Gryphons]]. A burly man with iron-grey hair and a thick beard, he leads with blunt authority and quiet menace — the kind of captain who has seen enough to stop being surprised, and enough to know when to keep his mouth shut.
## Biography
Porta Hale has run the Val Miriel guildhall of the Green Gryphons long enough to have earned the respect of his membership and the cautious regard of the city's authorities. He is a pragmatist above all else: contracts get fulfilled, coin changes hands, and trouble is managed before it reaches the front door. His well-worn plate armour — scratched and re-oiled more times than he can count, its green griffon emblem faded to the colour of old verdigris — speaks to a career built on showing up and getting the job done.
### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 20 - The Streets of Val Miriel]]
Met with the party at the Green Gryphons guildhall; presented them with potential contracts including a silent gold mine and a ghostly merchant ship; identified tracks reported by Ryo as likely belonging to Displacer Beasts.
#### [[Session 25 - The Chimera]]
Received the party's debrief on the mine contract; agreed to forge travel papers for the party to head north to the Darkwood; paid out 500 gold each.
#### [[Session 27 - The Wanted Dwarf]]
Stalled an Imperial raid on the guildhall led by a Hand of the Empire searching for a druid and a half-folk magic user; feigned ignorance, allowing the party to evade capture; once the soldiers withdrew, warned the party that their continued presence in Val Miriel was becoming a liability and urged them to leave the city.
