Perched atop a petrified, thorny log at the only clear path through the woods, he demands a price not in gold or blood, but in something far rarer within that colourless place — something vibrant. ## Biography Grinn makes his home at the threshold of the [[Briarshade]], a strange and lightless wood where colour does not exist. He is civil, even courteous, and has no interest in violence — he knows the forest's shadows will claim the unwary soon enough regardless. His toll is a "Toll of Colour": a willingly surrendered piece of vibrancy, whether a physical object or a cherished, happy memory. Those who pay honestly find him a man of his word. He steps aside, points them true, and sends them on their way with something to help them survive what lies ahead. ### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 45 - Pieces on a Board]] Blocked the party's path through the [[Briarshade]] and demanded a Toll of Colour. [[Kai]] offered up the memory of wild-shaping into a dog and fouling [[Neros]]'s bed — a joyful, vivid recollection that Grinn extracted and consumed, permanently erasing it from Kai's mind. Satisfied, Grinn honoured the bargain: he stepped aside and gifted the party a "Briar Light," a piece of enchanted black sap that cast diffuse illumination without producing shadows, allowing them to navigate the rest of the forest safely.
