Grey-haired and gruff, he is a man who left a life of war far behind him and found, improbably, a kind of peace at sea. ## Biography Gorath was born into the grinding tribal conflicts of Aetheris, the central continent, and spent his youth and early middle years fighting. By the time he was old enough to reckon the cost, he had seen enough bloodshed to last several lifetimes. One night he simply walked away — out of camp, into the dark, without a word to anyone — and never looked back. He spent the years that followed working in the coastal cities, cooking at market stalls and street food stores, honing a craft that had nothing to do with violence. Eventually he signed on with a merchant vessel, trading one horizon for the next, until his travels brought him to [[Valtorra]]. There he fell in with [[The Albatross]] and her crew — a ship open-minded enough to take on a weathered half-orc with a past he didn't discuss — and settled into the rhythm of the galley. He carries the marks of his old life: grey hair scraped back into a ponytail with two braids alongside his face, and a pair of tusks from his lower lip, the right one chipped and broken.
