**Ellesandra Silmara** is a legendary ancestor of the [[Silmara Family]] who ruled [[Sumara, The Shining City|Sumara]] during the conflict known as the [[Vale of Eternal Night#The Long Hunt *(~2000 years ago)*|Long Hunt]] — a sustained campaign by the riding-bands of the [[Vale of Eternal Night|Vale]] against the elves of the Shimmering Peaks. She is remembered above all else for a single act: walking alone into the Vale and returning with the head of the leader of the Hunt.
## Biography
The Long Hunt ground on for years, devastating settlements on both sides of the boundary between the Vale and Sumaran territory. Ellesandra ruled through it, bearing the weight of a war that showed no sign of ending by negotiation or force of arms. At some point, she made a decision that no record has ever fully explained.
She walked into the [[Vale of Eternal Night]] alone.
She came back carrying the head of the leader of the Hunt. What passed inside the Vale — what she saw, who she spoke with, what she gave or promised or did to emerge again — was never spoken of. The war ended. Soon after her return, the archfae [[Mirileth|Mirileth, the Star-Veiled Queen]] rose to take the throne of the Court, and a tenuous peace settled over the border that has held for two thousand years since.
Ellesandra made a pact with the archfae queen to end the conflict: the queen would take control of the Vale, and the war would cease. The terms of that pact, if any were written down, are lost.
### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 50 - A New Morning in Sumara]]
[[Warden Sylvaris]] told [[Ryo]] and the party the story of the Long Hunt beneath the bioluminescent fields of the Greensward, naming Ellesandra as an ancestor of Ryo's line and recounting her solitary journey into the Vale — and her return with the Hunt-leader's head. The account was delivered as received history: what she did is documented; how she did it is not.
