Steady-handed and grimly loyal, he was born into the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire's]] occupation of the north and has known nothing else — but his hatred of it is not abstract. ## Biography Erendir was born in [[Val Noren]] to a human guardsman father and an elven mother, a child of the occupied north in every sense. He was young when [[Valtorran Empire|Imperial]] forces pushed hard into the city — his mother was killed in the assault. His father raised him in the aftermath with little ceremony and few words about it, but the shape of that loss informed everything that followed: the guard career begun young, the grimness that sits just beneath a composed exterior, the quiet certainty that he is owed a reckoning with the Empire on behalf of someone who will never see it. He rose through the city guard on the strength of his composure and his knowledge of [[Val Noren]]'s streets and defences. When [[King Marius Noren]] established his hold at the Keep, Erendir was among the first officers to present himself. Marius gave him the captaincy without hesitation.
