**Belinda Bubblegum** is a dwarven artificer and enchanter of exceptional talent, quietly regarded by those who know such things as one of the finest magical crafters in [[Valtorra]] — though she has gone to deliberate lengths to ensure most people have never heard of her. A graduate of the conjuration school at the [[Glimmerforge]] Academy of Magic, she pivoted almost immediately from formal study toward self-directed mastery, teaching herself the principles of magical item creation and enchantment from first principles and from the ruins of those who came before. She travels constantly, and the small towns she passes through tend to remember her warmly long after she has moved on.
## Description
#### Appearance
Belinda is young even by dwarven standards — early thirties, with a round, open face that people instinctively trust and a smile that arrives quickly and stays. Her long hair falls straight to her waist with the faintest wave, currently a bright bubblegum pink, and her flowing robes match exactly. That can change in an instant. Set at the centre of her forehead is her [[Rhun'zar]], a polished silver plate etched with conjuration sigils and crowned with a stylised rose — her personal flourish.
At the heart of her appearance is the ring: a slender silver band set with a faceted crystal that shifts through the full colour spectrum when twisted. It was one of Belinda's own designs — sympathetic enchantment, she will tell you, is instantaneous. When the crystal changes, so do the robes, so does the hair, all at once. Most people notice it as an accessory. She considers it a proof of concept.
#### Personality
Belinda is bubbly in a way that fills a room — loud in her enthusiasm, prone to veering mid-sentence into tangents about whatever she is currently obsessing over, and possessed of a laugh that arrives with very little warning. She has genuine warmth for ordinary people and none at all for formality or self-importance, and she collects acquaintances the way some people collect books, leaving a trail of delighted innkeepers and bewildered town councils across the continent. People like her immediately. They also, fairly often, roll their eyes at her. She does not especially notice.
What most of those people do not realise — until the moment she hands them something impossible — is how much is running behind the cheerfulness. Belinda is one of the finest magical crafters alive, and she knows it, though she rarely says so. The moment someone receives one of her serious works, the preconceptions dissolve. The exuberance is real; the shallowness was never there. She is equally comfortable explaining advanced sympathetic enchantment theory and demanding hop seeds from a stranger at seven in the morning, and she does not see any contradiction in this.
Beneath the sociability is an obsessive curiosity that has driven her across the continent and into ruins that better-advised people leave alone. The everyday enchantments she gives away freely are not charity — they are evidence that magic should serve people. The research is evidence that it can do far more than it currently does.
## Biography
#### Background
Belinda studied conjuration at the [[Glimmerforge]] Academy of Magic, where her talent was plain enough that she graduated marked as a prodigy, with a faculty consensus that a prestigious institutional career awaited her. She had other plans. Her real interest lay in the mechanics of permanence — in how magic could be bound into an object to endure and serve — and the Academy's approach to this field struck her as cautious to the point of timidity. She began teaching herself the deeper principles of magical item creation and enchantment on the side, and by the time she left [[Glimmerforge]] she had already moved past most of what her instructors could offer.
What followed was a deliberate rejection of the obvious path. Belinda took to the road and has not stopped since, travelling [[Valtorra]]'s reaches in search of knowledge that no living teacher can provide. The ancient craftspeople who built the continent's most enduring artefacts left traces of their methods behind — in ruins, in recovered items, in the faint signatures of enchantments still humming inside structures that have stood for centuries. She has devoted herself to recovering those traces, to understanding not just what the old masters made but how, and to pushing her own craft toward limits that current teaching cannot describe.
In the towns and villages along the way, she leaves a different kind of impression. Self-drying towels, self-stirring spoons, a latch that never forgets to lock — small things, given freely, with no ceremony. The people in those places tend to remember her long after she has moved on.
For some time, one of her primary goals was to reach [[Arkangel]], the legendary autonomous flying city that drifts above [[Valtorra]] beyond the reach of most travellers. She achieved that goal in [[Lighthaven]], with the help of [[The Bloody Nails]].
### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]]
#### [[Session 29 - Lighthaven Awaits]]
The party arrived in [[Lighthaven]] as the town prepared for the upcoming [[The Emberlight Vigil|Emberlight Vigil]] festival. Belinda introduced herself memorably — storming into the local tavern to demand hop seeds from the innkeeper for an unspecified experiment — before the group tracked her to her workshop, **Belinda's Chest**. There she made her proposition: plant a custom magical conduit inside [[The Emberspire]] during the festival to siphon a fraction of the tower's energy, and she would craft the party a rare magical item in exchange for the risk. She took a particular interest in [[Kai]]'s water magic and in [[Dondar]]'s connection to the dwarves.
#### [[Session 30 - The Darkwood Ambush]]
As preparations for the Vigil continued, the party browsed Belinda's catalogue of potential enchantments and commissioned a rapier for [[Eryndor]]. [[Dondar]] cast *Identify* on her custom transmutation piton, confirming it as a precision device engineered to channel and siphon power from the Emberspire.
#### [[Session 31 - The Emberlight Vigil]]
At midnight the festival's golden light flooded [[Lighthaven]], and Belinda set to work inside her workshop alongside [[Dondar]] — who proved an extraordinary collaborator. His instincts for enchantment were exceptional, and together the two channelled the Emberspire's power to forge the **Emberblade**: a rapier of gold and obsidian, its pommel carved in Dondar's own likeness, which he gifted to [[Eryndor]]. [[Kai]] also commissioned a custom-engraved Clockwork Amulet for a hundred gold. The evening was not entirely without incident — Kai's attempt to collect Belinda's sweat in a vial using *Shape Water* did not go unnoticed, and she destroyed it before he could retreat.
## Trivia
- Belinda's colour-changing ring — a faceted crystal set in silver that shifts her robes and hair to match — is one of her own designs. She describes it as a demonstration of instantaneous sympathetic enchantment. It is also, she would admit, extremely satisfying to use.
