She came up through the streets of [[Camaar]] as an orphan, found a foothold with the [[Veiled Cubs]], and eventually took to the sea — where a friendship with Barak's son **Baran** would set the course of everything that followed. ## Biography Ari grew up without family, raised in the alleys of [[Camaar]] and swept into the orbit of the [[Veiled Cubs]] — the city's loose network of street orphans — early enough that it became the only home she knew. She was quick and capable and unsentimental in the way that people become when survival leaves no room for anything else. But the Cubs were somewhere to grow up, not somewhere to stay. By the time she aged out she had no particular plan for what came next. The sea was available, so she took it. Her first posting brought her aboard the ship of **Baran**, son of [[Barak Stormrider]]. They became close. When the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]] requisitioned Baran's vessel and its Imperial captain began brutalising the crew, Ari tried to help the men who were suffering. She was there when Baran stepped in to stop it, and she was there when the captain had him killed for the trouble. His body went into the sea. Ari carried the news to Barak herself. In the grief and silence that followed, the bond between them was forged. They pledged together that the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]] would be made to answer for what it had done. Since then she has served aboard [[The Albatross]] as Barak's first mate — close at his side, trusted above anyone, steady in every fight the Mawbreakers have brought to the [[Valtorran Empire|Empire]]'s door. Beneath a direct manner and a dry, easy wit, Ari carries a warmth she doesn't always advertise. She is fiercely loyal to her crew, unflinching in a crisis, and one of the few people on the water that Barak trusts without reservation. ### [[The Bloody Nails|Campaign: The Bloody Nails]] #### [[Session 08 - The High Road]] When [[Gemma Finegold|Gemma]] brought the party to the Mawbreakers' guildhall on the docks of [[Camaar]], Ari stood alongside Barak as he briefed them on the [[Skyreach]] schematics and proposed the operation to destroy it. #### [[Session 10 - The Coastal Cave]] The party paid a brief visit to check travel times to [[Val Miriel]]. Ari gave the estimate: two to three days by boat. #### [[Session 14 - The Devil's Wish]] After the Mawbreakers' fleet defeated the Imperial vessel *The Devil's Wish*, Ari joined [[Kai]], [[Ryo]], and [[Dondar]] in the looting party that boarded the sinking wreck. #### [[Session 15 - Operation Skyreach]] Barak ordered Ari to remain behind and guard the fleet during the assault on [[Skyreach]]. She accepted the command under protest. #### [[Session 16 - The Fall of Skyreach]] With Barak near death at the extraction point, Ari took command. She reported that roughly thirty sailors — half the Mawbreaker force — had died holding the line so the enslaved workers could escape. She presented [[The Bloody Nails]] with Barak's promised reward: a chest containing a thousand platinum pieces. #### [[Session 37 - March of the Dead]] The party and the Mawbreakers shared a heartfelt reunion in [[Val Noren]], Ari among the old allies who welcomed them back. #### [[Session 41 - Reclaim the Reclaimer]] At the war council following the rescue of [[King Marius Noren]], Ari and Barak were tasked with leading the Mawbreakers to commandeer the boats needed for a pontoon crossing — a flanking maneuver to be executed if parley with Imperial forces failed.
