Their descent from the mountain is interrupted by a ferocious ambush; what begins as a skirmish with a pack of sabertooth tigers quickly escalates when a massive, three-headed Chimera descends upon the fray. In a display of chaotic prowess, [[Dondar]] unleashes reckless fire, while [[Kai]] manages to ride the beast mid-flight. [[Eryndor]] delivers the killing shot, felling the monstrosity, which the party then stuffs into their modified wagon to haul back to civilisation. Upon arriving at [[Val Miriel]], the group finds the city transformed into a dystopian police state. The gates are barred, martial law is in effect, and the streets are scarred by recent riots. Through a combination of quick thinking and [[Vaeleran]]'s smooth talking, utilizing their [[The Green Gryphons]] credentials, they bypass the blockade. Inside, they discover a city on edge, plastered with revolutionary propaganda detailing [[The Valtorran Empire|The Empire]]'s draconian new taxes and conscription laws—documents stolen during a daring heist on [[The Bastion]]. The session concludes with the party capitalising on their hunt. They sell the Chimera carcass to the hunters at [[The Fur and Fang]] for a substantial sum before reporting back to the [[The Green Gryphons]]. Deceiving their guild leadership, they claim the gold mine had naturally collapsed and was empty, securing their payment while keeping the true nature of the mine a secret. As night falls, the party prepares to navigate the curfew, with plans to visit the temple and contact their rebellion allies. ## Details ### Departing the Mine * **Harvesting:** [[Kai]] harvests bioluminescent mushrooms (blue and purple) from the underground forest. He transplants them to the internal entrance of the spider caves, creating a "Do Not Enter" warning sign. * **Sealing the Entrance:** [[Dondar]] identifies structural weak points in the mine's main entrance. [[Ryo]] uses a dynamite arrow to trigger a collapse, effectively sealing the mine from the Empire. * **Rest:** The party spends a final night in the abandoned mining village before beginning their descent. ### The Mountain Ambush * **The Tigers:** Halfway down the mountain, [[Ryo]] spots three Sabertooth Tigers ambushing the group. * **The Chimera:** Mid-battle, a Chimera joins the fray, scorching one of the tigers with fire breath before turning on the party. * **Friendly Fire:** [[Dondar]] casts *Fireball*, dealing massive damage to the Chimera but also scorching [[Vaeleran]] in the process. * **Kai's Ride:** [[Kai]] uses *Misty Step* to teleport onto the Chimera's back, stabbing it and holding on as it takes flight. * **The Kill:** [[Eryndor]] snipes the beast out of the air. Kai falls but survives with minor injuries. * **Preservation:** The group decapitates their wagon (removing the roof) to fit the massive corpse inside. Kai casts *Gentle Repose* using copper coins on the Chimera's eyes to preserve it for sale. Ryo harvests skins and meat from the tigers. ### Return to Val Miriel * **The Warning:** On the road, the party encounters merchants fleeing [[Val Miriel]]. They warn that the city is in total lockdown and denied entry to anyone without official Empire business. * **The Gates:** Arriving at the city, they find a heavy military presence and a [[Hand of The Empire]] commander watching the line. * **Entry:** [[Vaeleran]] bluffs the gate captain, using the [[The Green Gryphons]] token and claiming official business regarding [[Lord Norak Vara]]'s mine. The guard reluctantly allows them entry but warns them against causing trouble. * **State of the City:** The city is in disarray. There is evidence of recent riots, rubble blocking [[The Divine Way]], and graffiti. Gatherings of more than six people are banned. * **Propaganda:** [[Eryndor]] uses *Mage Hand* to snatch a fresh poster from a wall. It reveals stolen Empire plans for extreme tax hikes, mandatory conscription, and increased arrests. ### Business in the City * **Fur and Fang:** The party visits the hunting shop run by [[Kira]] and [[Gaara]]. They negotiate the sale of the Chimera corpse for approximately 2,200 gold (pending processing). [[Ryo]] arranges for a cloak to be made from a pristine tiger pelt. * **News of Rebellion:** [[Gaara]] reveals that [[The Order of Ravens]] (implied) broke into the Bastion, stole the documents, and possibly attempted to assassinate the General, sparking the riots. * **Guild Debrief:** The party reports to [[Porta Hale]] at the [[The Green Gryphons]]. [[Vaeleran]] lies, stating the mine was found collapsed and empty of gold. * **Rewards:** The party receives 500 gold each. [[Porta Hale|Porta]] agrees to forge travel papers for them to head north to [[The Darkwood]]. * **Next Moves:** [[Kai]] and [[Dondar]] plan to head to the temple of [[The High Sept]] for a ceremony, while [[Vaeleran]] intends to use the sending stones to contact their allies. ## Art ### Mountain Side - The Chimera ![[Mountain Side - The Chimera.png]]
